The $1 million airdrop campaign was recently started by Shimmer, IOTA's staging network, to encourage the expansion and innovation of the ShimmerEVM ecosystem. The incentive, which went into effect on January 31, 2024, is designed to increase the amount of additional liquidity that enters and is used by linked ecosystems through the recently introduced Shimmer Bridge.

Scams do, however, provide a risk in addition to the thrill and opportunity that the airdrop offers. Because of this, the Shimmer team has alerted the IOTA community to the possibility that scammers and fraudsters will attempt to take advantage of the airdrop operation.

Shimmer alerts the IOTA community via tweet that there is only one active Shimmer EVM IOTA airdrop campaign, so be cautious of con artists. They ought to only click on official links as a safety precaution.

Users should take additional precautions by making sure they do not believe any unofficial sources or channels that claim to be able to provide information or help with the airdrop, nor should they click on any dubious links.

They should also utilize a secure wallet that is compatible with the ShimmerEVM network and always verify addresses before completing any transaction.

Users should be aware that after the 45-day tracking period ends at 3:00 p.m. CET on March 16, 2024, participants will be able to collect their rewards for the Shimmer airdrop via the Tide Campaign Board following a phase of validation, cross-checking, tracking, and results.

The distribution of rewards will take place over a period of six weeks after the scheduled initial release. The overall prize pool, which is equivalent to $1 million in SMR tokens, will be divided by the total points earned by all users during the tracking period to determine the final reward amounts.

As the first week of the $1 million ShimmerEVM airdrop approaches, Shimmer provides updates. According to DefiLlama data, there have been 700 eligible participants thus far: 3.44 million TVL for TVL Bridge inflow and 12 million TVL for Shimmer EVM. Additionally, the Shimmer bridge has been used to hit 1000 tx/day.
