Fractal Bitcoin, A New Approach to Bitcoin Mining

Sep 06 Tech Standard

Fractal Bitcoin, a new sidechain of Bitcoin, is set to launch on September 9th. It introduces a unique mining method called "Cadence Mining." This method allows Bitcoin miners to merge-mine with Fractal Bitcoin every three blocks.

Fractal Bitcoin uses Bitcoin's foundation to scale through recursive virtualization. This ensures the security and consistency of its multi-layer architecture. By creating independent layers anchored to Bitcoin, Fractal avoids network congestion while keeping Bitcoin's proof-of-work (PoW) protocol intact. This multi-layer design provides near-limitless scalability.

Cadence Mining is different from usual merged mining. In usual merged mining, miners secure two blockchains at once. Cadence Mining spaces out block rewards, allowing Bitcoin miners to mine Fractal Bitcoin blocks every third block. This approach distributes mining rewards differently while ensuring the security of the main Bitcoin network.

Fractal Bitcoin is a distinct sidechain with its own native token. Half of the total 210 million tokens are set aside for miners through PoW. The ecosystem treasury has 15% and 10% is earmarked for community grants. 5% of the tokens are allocated for pre-sale with a lockup period.

The project is designed for advanced applications like non-fungible tokens (NFTs), Ordinals, and BRC20 tokens. Its recursive architecture balances network loads, promising to avoid congestion and reduce block confirmation times to 30 seconds. Asset bridging allows for the effortless transfer of digital assets within the ecosystem.

Fractal Bitcoin claims to be a game-changer for Bitcoin sidechains, offering both scalability and efficiency while preserving security. However, it remains to be seen if these claims will hold up in practice. With many other sidechains and layer two (L2) solutions emerging, Fractal faces a competitive space.
