Learning About Erickson, Kate

[00:59]

Kate Erickson enjoys listening to podcasts. She is half of the Entrepreneurs on Fire team. She and her partner, John Lee Dumas, launched the Entrepreneurs on Fire podcast in 2012. The podcast took off in early 2013, about six months after its debut. With a growing audience, people began approaching John and asking if he offered coaching, as well as how they got started with the podcast and made it successful.

[1:41]

John asked Kate if she wanted to quit her job and become the operations or heartbeat of the entire setup. They've been making Entrepreneurs on Fire for the past nine years. Since then, they've launched seven or eight different types of podcasts.

System and Process Deconstruction

[03:23]

They emphasise the importance of having a content system in place so that you have a production strategy and system in place regardless of the type of podcast you're producing. It's not as much fun to debut a podcast and then spend all of your time trying to keep up with your production schedule, and you'll quickly grow irritated because things aren't going as planned.

[04:26]

One of the most important systems they have is their content production system. It is primarily reliant on content batching.

Tools for Developing Systems and Processes

[6:36]

On the surface, systems are incredibly simple. The majority of their systems are built on Google spreadsheets or task management systems such as Asana.

[9:42]

Creating templates and a checklist to refer to every time you perform that task in order to improve it is an important step in the process.

Implementing Systems and Processes From the Start

[11:36]

Systems will assist you in regaining time.

What Kate wishes she had known before starting her first podcast

[14:01]

Not everything has to be flawless. Not everything will be perfect.

Podcasters who do not use systems drive Kate is a banana.

[16:03]

Nobody ever regrets using systems and processes.

Things Kate is doing for which she does not yet have a system in place but wishes she did

[17:30]

When it comes to being a guest on other podcasts or doing series, Kate goes in waves of being adamant about having people use her scheduler so that she can batch those and then having an opportunity come up that she wants to do but it's completely off her schedule. Kate is working hard to make exceptions as few as possible. But it can be difficult at times because she enjoys doing this.
