TVS and Bajaj Auto in India predict difficulties in the export revival.

Jan. 24, BENGALURU (Reuters) - While both topped third-quarter profit predictions, India's TVS Motor and Bajaj Auto on Wednesday, respectively, and anticipated persistent obstacles to the export rebound.

Indians love to make large purchases during the consecutive festive and wedding seasons, which helped TVS and Bajaj Auto report profits for the quarter that ended on December 31 that were comfortably above analyst projections.

Bajaj Auto profited from robust demand for its high-end motorcycles, especially the two Triumph models, in addition to the festive season.

The September-quarter profits of the two-wheeler manufacturers continued to be strong, driving both their stocks and the Nifty Auto index to all-time highs. Exports are still a barrier, though.

The enterprises, whose export regions are shared by South America, Africa, and South Asia, have encountered difficulties in exporting their automobiles.

"Export demand is slowly increasing, but it's still not up to our desired level," stated Dinesh Thapar, the finance chief of Bajaj Auto, during a call following the company's earnings.

For the quarter ending December 31, the two-wheeler exports of the Pulsar motorcycle manufacturer decreased 3% year over year, while those of TVS increased by approximately 4%.

In a conference call following the company's earnings, CEO K. N. Radhakrishnan stated that problems with currency depreciation still exist in Africa, one of TVS's main export markets.

TVS entered the European market through an import-and-distribution arrangement with Emil Frey as part of the firms' efforts to increase their global footprint.

According to Thapar of Bajaj Auto, the company has begun shipping Triumph motorcycles to Poland, Japan, Australia, the UK, and the US.

"In the quarter, of the 15,000 units of Triumph we sold, about 7,000 went to export markets," he stated.

About 20% of TVS's two-wheeler sales and 37% of Bajaj Auto's come from exports.
